Holiday Ornament Tutorial

Here is the updated Holiday Ornament Tutorial.

Before you begin, you will want to gather a few supplies for your project.
You will need:
Card stock:  Very Vanilla
Designer Series Paper (DSP): Candlelight Christmas
Ink: Real Red, Lucky Limeade
Stamp Set: Ornament Keepsakes
Tools:  Big Shot, Paper Snips,  Multipurpose Liquid Glue,  2-way Glue Pen (optional:  use with the Dazzling Diamonds), Dazzling Diamonds (optional) Holiday Ornaments Framelits Dies, Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die, Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Bone Folder, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, hot glue gun/extra glue sticks**
Embellishments:  Cherry Cobbler Tulle, Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons, Large Pearl Basics Jewels, Linen Thread

**Denotes a non-Stampin' Up! item

Directions:
  • Stamp 20 of the large ornament in Lucky Limeade  ink onto Very Vanilla card stock.   Stamp 20 of the smaller ornament in Real Red ink onto Very Vanilla card stock.
  • Using the Big Shot and the Holiday Ornaments Framelits Dies- cut out all 40 ornaments.
  • Score 15 of the large Lucky Limeade  ornaments in half lengthwise using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  Score 15of the small Real Red Ornaments in half lengthwise using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  Use the Bone Folder to make the folds crisp.
  • Adhere 3 large Lucky Limeade ornaments together using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  This will create the 3D look.  Continue adhering the large Lucky Limeade ornaments together until you have made 5 individual 3D ornaments.  Your ornaments should look like the ornament pictured below:

  • Take the remaining 5 stamped large Lucky Limeade ornaments and turn them stamped side down.  Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the 3D large Lucky Limeade ornaments to the unstamped side of the ornament.  See picture above.
  • Adhere 3 small Real Red ornaments together using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.    Continue adhering the small Real Red ornaments together until you have made 5 individual 3D ornaments.
  • Take the remaining 5 stamped small Real Red ornaments and turn them stamped side down.  Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the 3D small Real Red ornaments to the unstamped side of the ornament.

  • (optional) Take all 5 large Lucky Limeade ornaments and the 5 small Real Red  ornaments and outline the edges of all sides with the 2-way Glue Pen.  Do this one ornament at a time.  After all edges on the ornament have been outlined in glue- sprinkle the edges with Dazzling Diamonds.  Set all ornaments aside and let dry.
  • Cut a 1 1/4" circle out of Very Vanilla card stock and mark the center of the circle with a dot.  The circle adds extra support to the ornament and the dot helps you center the large Lucky Limeade ornaments on the circle.
  • Cut six - 10" long pieces of Linen Thread and set aside.
  • Cut five-  3 scallops long pieces of Cherry Cobbler Tulle.

  • Take the 5 large Lucky Limeade ornaments and arrange them  on the 1 1/4 " circle.  Use the dot in the center of the 1 1/4" circle to center the ornaments.  Arrange as shown in picture below:

  • Adhere each large Lucky Limeade ornament down one at a time using Multipurpose Liquid Glue- be sure to maintain the layout of the ornaments as shown in the picture above.
  • Take one of the Cherry Cobbler Tulle pieces and lay it flat.  Grab the middle and gather at the bottom.  Using the hot glue gun, glue down the Cherry Cobbler Tulle pieces one at a time.   Glue tulle in between the actual ornaments that you adhered to the 1 1/4" circle.   Repeat until all tulle has been adhered to the ornament.  Refer to pictures below:

  • Use one piece of the 10" Linen Thread.  Make a loop and tie a knot at the bottom.  Adhere this to the inside of the top ornament (towards the center of the ornament)

  • Using  five- 10" pieces of Linen Thread, make a large loop from each piece, then fold the loop in half again making 2 smaller loops.  Use the hot glue gun to attach the Linen Thread loops to the inside of the ornaments.  See picture below:

  • Next, using the hot glue gun, attach each small Real Red ornament to the bottom of the Cherry Cobbler Tulle.

  • Cut a 1" x 12" strip of Candlelight Christmas DSP.  You can use whatever pattern you choose.
  • Using the Big Shot and the Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die, cut out a rosette. Use the 1 1/4" Circle Punch to punch a circle out of Very Vanilla card stock.   After the rosette is cut out- assemble the rosette and attach it the 1 1/4" Very Vanilla circle with hot glue.
  • Take one of the large Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons and adhere it to the center of the rosette with hot glue.
  • Take a Large Pearl Basics Jewel and attach it to the center of the large Vintage Faceted Designer Button.

  • Using the hot glue gun, make a pool of hot glue in the center of the ornament.  It's OK to get glue on the tips of the small Real Red ornaments as this well help adhere the rosette to the ornament.
  • Push the rosette into the hot glue puddle and hold for a few seconds to ensure proper bonding.

Now you have your completed Holiday Ornament!  Isn't it beautiful?

Want to add a little something extra?  The back of the ornament is the perfect canvas!

For my ornament above:
I used the second to the smallest  Window Frame Framelit and cut out a Lucky Limeade frame.
I then used the 1 3/8" Square Punch to punch out a Very Vanilla square.  I centered the square inside the frame and adhered it with SNAIL.
I stamped the snowflake image from the Mixed Medley stamp set in Real Red ink.  Stamp the Merry Christmas sentiment in Lucky Limeade.  Punch out the snowflake with the 1 1/4" Scallop Circle punch and the sentiment with the 3/4" Circle Punch.  Adhere together and center in the square.  I used SNAIL on the back of the frame to attach it to the back of the Holiday Ornament.  See picture below:

I hope you enjoy!

  1. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for putting together a step-by-step pictoral tutorial. I like seeing the video of how to put together, but when I'm actually making one, I prefer a print version of the directions. Can't wait to finish putting mine together!
