Since my mother in law's birthday is in a few days, I thought I'd make a mini explosion box with a cute little tea light birthday cake. I know these little tea light cakes were popular a few years ago but I've only recently discovered them. I love making them because they are quick and easy not to mention super cute! They are the perfect gift for the person who has everything!
This is what the box looks like when it's closed:
And when it's opened:
I hope she likes it!

Dani does this one start with a 12 by 12 as you are calling it mini. It is cute and such a neat idea with the candle. Did you follow a tutorial or create it yourself as this would be a nice birthday gift. Thanks

ReplyDeleteTo make the box- I started with a 6"x6" piece of card stock. Score all 4 sides at 2. Then I cut away the 4 corners. For the top- I started with a 3 1/8"x3 1/8" piece of card stock. Score all 4 sides at 1/2" and fold into a box. To decorate- for each side on the bottom of the box I used card stock that was 1 3/4" x 1 3/4". The DSP on the bottom panels was 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
For the tea light itself- I used the circle punch from the itty bitty shapes punch pack and punched out a circle. Then center the 1 3/8" circle punch over the hole and punch out the larger circle.(This is what creates the hole for the flame to go through).
For the edge of the tea light- I cut a piece of card stock to approx. 7/8" x 5" long. Emboss the circle for the top and the 5" strip with the lacy brocade embossing folder.
The base of the tea light is a piece of card stock punched out using the scallop circle punch. To turn it off/on- I used the circle from the itty bitty shapes pack and punched a hole.
For adhesive on the tea light- I used Tombow multipurpose adhesive to hold the top and bottom pieces. The 5" strip was adhered using Sticky Strip.
The roses on top were made from a 7/8" scallop circle punch. (Spiral cut and roll up) The leaves were from the bird builder punch.
Please note that not all battery operated tea lights are the same size so the measurements I used above could be off.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for the directions. I just signed up for your newsleters. Looking forward following you.
