2013 Artisan Design Team Finalist Blog Hop- Day 3

Welcome back to the 2013 Artisan Finalist Blog Hop. Today is Day 3. Did you just arrive from Cathy's blog?  If not- take the hop all the way around until you get to her!  She is amazingly talented and her projects are beautiful! If I'm your first stop- please take the hop all the way around to check out everyone's amazing creations!  What have you thought about the entries so far?  Don't you just LOVE them? They are pretty awesome!

The third project I chose to share is a Valentine's Day card.  Even though this card is pretty basic- the heart took me what seemed like forever to make.  It was a lot of trial and error.  I even sewed it to my thumb completely by accident and had to start all over again!  How is this possible you ask?  Well to make a long story short- I had been working on my second 3-Dimensional project for a very long time and my fingers were extremely calloused.  So when I started hand sewing this card- the needle went right in- several times and I never even realized it until it was too late!  Thankfully I paid attention to what I was doing on the next heart and it worked perfectly!
Here is a side view of the card.  You can see a very little bit of how the inside was decorated as well.  Even though I don't have a picture of the inside- I kept it super simple and just added a few embossed hearts to the opposite corners.

It's hard to see from the pictures but the heart is actually really thick and puffy.  Definitely  not a card that could be mailed without getting smashed but it was really cute!  After I had sewn the heart together I had the idea to try and add an arrow directly through the heart.  I didn't think it was going to work out very well as I had already sanded the Real Red Core'dinations heart.  From my previous trial and error creating the heart- I found that I had to cut out the hearts, emboss them, sew them together, stuff with fluff, and then sand them.  Otherwise the card stock was just too weak from sanding and would rip every time.

This is a close up mostly of the heart but you can also see the criss-cross pattern that I scored using the Simply Scored Scoring plate.  I added the smallest Rhinestone Basic Jewels at the intersecting points.  The arrow was made from a wooden skewer cut into a smaller size.  I then made an arrow tip out of Silver Glimmer Paper and added two small sections of fringed Real Red Card Stock for the fins.
Card Ingredients:
Card Stock:  Real Red, Whisper White, Silver Glimmer Paper
Stamps:  Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink:  Real Red
Tools:  Stampin' Trimmer, Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Big Shot, Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder, Chevron Embossing Folder, needle, white thread, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, SNAIL, Stampin' Dimensionals, Glue Dots, hot glue, White Organza Ribbon, wooden skewer, Paper Piercing Tool, Stampin' Sanding System

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope that you are enjoying the hop!  I know we have waited a long time to share our projects with you but I can assure you- it was worth the wait!  Ready to go to the next stop?  Hit the next button to see what the fabulous Dara Gloden has to share with you today!
